McCaskill disputes reports she worked against St. Louis DNC bid

Feb 2, 2011

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri is coming under fire after a report in the New York Times accuses her of working against bringing the Democratic National Convention to the state.

The report quoted an anonymous source in the White House as saying that McCaskill was privately against the city of St. Louis’ bid because it could hurt her re-election efforts. She says that’s not true:

“I had personal conversations with all of the decision-makers on this, telling them how much this meant to St. Louis and how important it was to our state. So I don’t know who the anonymous source is that is being referenced in this news article but they’re wrong.” - Claire McCaskill

Republican Senate candidate Ed Martin says if the Times’ report is true, McCaskill has “cynically betrayed Missourians.” Charlotte, N.C., was selected for the Democrats’ national convention in 2012.
