St. Louis – Democratic gubernatorial nominee Claire McCaskill says she has a plan for streamlining Missouri's homeland security capabilities.
Her proposal calls for improving the state's data sharing capabilities, enhancing communication between first responders and safeguarding ports and agriculture.
McCaskill says her past audits show Missouri is not doing a good job in maximizing and distributing federal dollars.
"Some alert teams were getting equipment, but didn't have enough members on their team to use the equipment," McCaskill said. "Others had more members on their team than they had equipment. So those are the kinds of things that we've got to make sure that we fix."
McCaskill says most of her plan does not require additional spending. But her Republican opponent, Secretary of State Matt Blunt, questions her crime prevention record when she served as Jackson County prosecutor.`
