Metro service restorations begin

St. Louis – There are more frequent rush hour MetroLink trains today, and 20 bus routes in St. Louis city and county are back.

The transit agency Metro cut service last year because of budget cuts, but last April St. Louis County voters passed a half-cent sales tax, and Metro is restoring service as promised.

Metro spokeswoman Dianne Williams says the restorations will be phased in over the next two months.

"We'll see more by the end of the summer," Williams said. "This phase is addressing the summertime needs we tend to have. MetroLink is a really popular service during the summer."

Williams said Metro will hire about 120 new bus drivers, mechanics and other employees by the end of the year.
