Military Says East Alton Soldier Died from Heat

By AP/KWMU

East Alton, Ill. – Military officials are blaming the death of a soldier from East Alton on Iraq's blistering summer heat.

Army Private Matthew Bush, 20, was found dead in his bed last week in Kirkush, about a hundred miles north of Baghdad. He had been overseas for about three weeks.

Preliminary findings from an autopsy performed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware suggest heat as the cause of death. Bush's body has been returned to his family in East Alton.

A formal autopsy report, including toxicology results, will be unavailable for 20 to 30 days.
