Miquelon Quits as Southern Illinois' Federal Prosecutor

By AP/KWMU

Fairview Heights, Ill. – The top federal prosecutor in southern Illinois is stepping down. U.S. Attorney Miriam Miquelon says she's resigning because she can no longer afford to raise two children on a government salary. Her resignation takes effect in two months.

The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois prosecutes federal crimes in the state's southernmost 38 counties. The position pays more than $120,000 dollars a year.

Miquelon is a native of Elmhurst, Ill. and a DePaul University Law School graduate.
