Mississippi above flood stage, closed to boaters

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis, MO – Part of the Mississippi River remains closed to recreational boaters due to flooding. The river was about 5 feet above flood stage Monday in St. Louis and Hannibal.

The U.S. Coast Guard has closed a portion of the Upper Mississippi River near Dardienne Island, about 30 miles northwest of St. Louis.

The Guard said boaters in the restricted area could cause excessive wakes, which could damage property along the river.

Several areas of northern and central Missouri are still under flood warnings as rivers are still high and the ground remains saturated. The Mississippi is expected to rise another half-foot by Tuesday.
