Missouri Changes Mental Health Care for Kids

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Bob Holden signed legislation into law Wednesday that tries to make it easier for the state to pay some children's mental health care costs.

The measure changed the requirement that parents give up custody of their children to the state so the child could get treatment.

Medicaid will now cover the costs of care and let parents keep custody of their children.

It's the first bill Holden signed into law from this spring's legislative session.

The new law also authorizes the creation of an inter-agency team, to better coordinate mental health services.
