Missouri Gaming Commission Hears Casino Proposals

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – The Missouri Gaming Commission heard proposals Wednesday from several casino companies who hope to win licenses in the St. Louis area.

Harrah's, Isle of Capri, Pinnacle and Riviera are all vying to build casino projects in either downtown St. Louis, south St. Louis County or Jefferson County.

Gaming Commission executive director Kevin Mullally says analysis indicates the market could sustain at least one more casino, and possibly two>

"We've spent close to three years laying the groundwork for this," Mullally said. "We've had a number of meetings. We presented our economic analysis of the region and so far the commission has said that their first priority is to try to get us something of very high quality in downtown. And beyond that, I think the options are open."

Mullally says that following two days of public hearings in May, the Gaming Commission should make a decision sometime in June.
