Missouri GOP looks askance at Nixon's Republican appointments

Jefferson City, Mo. – The Missouri Republican Party is casting a critical eye at several of Gov. Jay Nixon's recent appointments.

The Democratic governor appointed Kelley Martin, of Kansas City to a Republican slot on the Development Finance Board. And he picked attorney Stephen Miller for a GOP position on the Highway Commission.

Both appointees contributed to Nixon and have given more money to Democrats than to Republicans in recent elections.

Missouri GOP Executive Director Lloyd Smith says the Republican credentials of those appointees are questionable. But Martin and Miller say they are Republicans.

Four years ago, the Democratic Party raised similar concerns about Republican Gov. Matt Blunt.
