Missouri has room for green job growth

By Maria Altman, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – A coalition of international business and environmental groups spoke Tuesday at a meeting of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association.

The message from United States Climate Action Partnership is that Missouri will create jobs by investing in clean energy.

Daniel Lashof with the Natural Resources Defense Council say those opportunities go beyond wind turbines.

"The biomass resources both from biofuels and for co-firing biomass with coal in electric power plants, which is something that can be done very quickly and reduce emissions, are both big opportunities for Missouri in particular," Lashof said.

USCAP includes 26 corporations and five environmental groups working to cut greenhouse emissions.

The group released a Blueprint for Legislative Action in January, and Lashof says many of their suggestions are making headway in Congress.
