Missouri House Backs Transportation Bill

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri House gave initial approval
today to a bill creating a new inspector general's position to check up on the transportation department.

The inspector general would be responsible for conducting investigations whenever the Legislature requests it. The inspector
general also would be required to promote the efficiency and integrity of the transportation department and to prevent fraud and waste.

The bill also would change the way highway commissioners are appointed. It would allow leaders of the House and Senate a chance to advise the governor on whom to nominate for the full Senate's approval.
