'The Missouri Immigrant Experience' Examines Life On Coming To America

Juan Montana

The organization Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates, or MIRA, is presenting their third annual visual exhibition “The Missouri Immigrant Experience: Faces and Places” at Old North Restoration Group from November 9 – December 2.

The photography exhibition features the images of local photographers Juan Montana and Bosnia native Amela Sinijac, in addition to historical photographs provided by the Missouri Historical Society.

St. Louis Public Radio's Erin Williams sat down with Joan Suarez, chair of MIRA, and MIRA board member Montana, who emigrated to the United States from his native Colombia 12 years ago, about what ways immigrants in the city and state are and are not represented in society.

First, Montana, who came to St Louis in 2005 for graduate school, shared his immigrant experience, with additional insight from Suarez on her views of the show.

The exhibit will remain on view at Old North Restoration Group. For more information visit the Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates Facebook Page.
