Missouri National Guard Units Activated

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Five units consisting of more than 1,000 members of the Missouri National Guard were mobilized over the weekend. The troops were ordered to report for active duty March 15th.

The units come from all over the state. They'll be participating in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Noble Eagle.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the fight abroad in the war on terrorism, while Operation Noble Eagle involves homeland security.

The mobilization includes members of the 203rd Engineer Battalion, the 1221st Transportation Company, the 235th Engineer
Detachment of Jefferson City and Jefferson Barracks and the 2175th Military Police Company.

The soldiers are expected to serve an initial term of one year -- but the term may be extended for a second year, if the president deems it necessary.
