Missouri to Relax Security at Capitol

Jefferson City, MO – Budget cuts are forcing the Missouri Capitol building to relax its security.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks, the state placed metal detectors at the Capitol's doors and hired private security guards to staff them.

But starting July 1, the private guards and metal detectors will be gone.

Legislators cut funding for the security efforts in the budget that takes effect in July.

State officials confirm that Capitol security will return to pre-9-11 levels. The change means free and open access to the Capitol.
