Jefferson City, MO – Most Missouri smokers want to quit, but they don't take advantage of available help.
That's the conclusion state health officials are drawing from a recent survey.
The survey of 15,000 people last year found that more than 60 percent of smokers wanted to quit sometime in the next six months, and half had tried to quit in the past.
Yet fewer than ten percent of current and former smokers used prescription medicines, or over-the-counter items such as nicotine patches or gum.
The Department of Health and Senior Services says the opinion poll was the largest special survey it has ever undertaken.
