St. Louis, MO – A week of speculation about the future of the Big 12 college athletic conference has ended, much to the relief of officials at the University of Missouri.

News that the University of Texas will remain in the Big 12 follows last week's decisions by Nebraska and Colorado to leave the conference.

University of Texas officials wouldn't say why they're staying. But reports say the
remaining 10 members of the Big 12 are allowing Texas to set up its own TV network and keep all the proceeds. Soon after the announcement, three other schools pledged to stay.

Texas athletic officials have scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference today.

The deal comes as a huge relief in Columbia. University of Missouri curators held emergency meetings over the weekend to discuss a major conference realignment.
