Missouri Supreme Court to Hear Gay Marriage Case

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, Mo. – The Missouri Supreme Court has scheduled a June 1 hearing on when voters will decide on a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

The order also puts election authorities on notice that they may have to scramble to assemble ballots.

The secretary of state faced a deadline Tuesday to let local election officials known which items will be on the August primary ballot.

The new hearing schedule extends the deadline.

Election officials will have to move fast if Democratic state office-holders succeed in placing the gay marriage ban on the August ballot.

Republicans want voters to decide the issue during the November greneral election.
