Missouri Unemployment Rises in May

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Governor Holden and President Bush lauded Missouri's job growth in April. But the picture for last month isn't as bright.

The U.S. Labor Department says the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in May rose to 5.1 percent.

That's below the 5.8 percent rate in May of last year.

But the jobless rate was just 4.7 percent rate in April of this year.

Net job growth, seasonally adjusted, from April to May is 100 jobs. In April, Missouri created more than 18,000 jobs.
