Missourians in Iraq Didn't Get Ballots

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, Mo. – Some Missouri soldiers stationed in Iraq were unable to vote in last week's elections.

St. Francois County Clerk Mark Hedrick says he sent absentee ballots to 13 military members stationed in Iraq. Eight were returned as undeliverable.

Hedrick says he doesn't know what happened to the other five, but none was returned with votes.

State Representative Jim Avery, who is stationed in Iraq as an Army engineer, says none of the roughly 20 people in his unit got absentee ballots in time to vote.

It's unclear if the military voting troubles were widespread or isolated.

A spokesman with the Missouri National Guard was unaware of any specific problems.
