Missourians miss chance to see shuttle landing

By Matt Sepic, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – Because of rain in Florida, Missourians missed a chance to see and hear the Space Shuttle Discovery Monday morning.

The shuttle was to have re-entered the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean just after 7 central time.

Had astronauts been able to land today, Discovery would have passed just west of St. Louis at more than 12,000 miles per hour on a southeasterly route to the Kennedy Space Center.

NASA's Mission Control also canceled a second landing attempt scheduled for 9:23 CT.
