Mizzou Suspends Clemons for '03-'04 Season
Columbia, MO – The University of Missouri men's basketball team has suspended guard Ricky Clemons for one year after he pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault and false imprisonment.
Clemons originally faced a felony charge of second-degree domestic assault after a woman accused him of choking and holding her against her will at his apartment. The trial was to begin next Tuesday.
A sentencing hearing is slated for June 23rd. The prosecutor plans to recommend Clemons get two years' probation and a one-year suspended jail term on the assault charge, and 90 days behind bars for false imprisonment.
The woman alleged Clemons pushed her down, bloodied her nose and choked her three months ago after she refused to watch the movie 'Roots' with him.
The junior college transfer averaged 14 points and a team-high 3.8 assists for the Tigers last season.
