Mo. Attorney General's office to investigate e-coli complaint

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster will look into a complaint filed against the Department of Natural Resources over its withholding of a report on E-Coli levels at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The readings were taken May 26th. But the report was not released until June 26th, amid concerns that it could harm tourism and business at the Lake.

The Missouri Clean Water Campaign, which is part of the Sierra Club, accuses the Department of Natural Resources of violating open records laws.

DNR Director Mark Templeton says his department will cooperate fully with the investigation.

"We run a transparent department, we can do better, we should have done better in this case, and we absolutely will do better in the future," Templeton said.

Templeton says that protecting the environment is the DNR's first priority.
