MO Atty. Gen. Warns of Spanish Lottery Scam

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's Attorney General office is warning of a scam that includes letters that inform people they've won a lottery in Spain.

The letters are a scam and people should not respond to the letter, says Attorney General Jay Nixon. "Winners" of this lottery are asked to send a processing fee to claim the money.

There is a well-known and legitimate Spanish lottery, but Nixon stresses these letters are not associated with that lottery in any way.

Anyone who receives a letter should call the Missouri attorney general's consumer protection hot line at 1-800-392-8222.
