Mo. authorities find hunter's body in river

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

ALTON, Ill. – Searchers of the Mississippi River north of St. Louis have found the body of a suburban St. Louis duck hunter who went missing Monday after the boat he occupied with another man capsized.

The Missouri Water Patrol and Coast Guard say 25-year-old Kristopher Van Meter of DeSoto died after the boat overturned near the Alton, Ill., river bridge.

St. Charles County authorities say Van Meter and another man were floating Monday afternoon in a fishing boat loaded with tree branches for camouflage when the boat began to take on water and sink. The other man managed to swim to a nearby island and was rescued.

The water patrol says the men were not wearing life jackets.
