Jefferson City, Mo. – The Missouri House spent several hours Tuesday debating what to include and what to cut from the state budget.
Among the proposals is a list of salary reductions for the state's agency heads. It's sponsored by State Representative Ryan Silvey (R, Kansas City).
"I just think that if we're going to be firing state employees and if we're going to be talking about how government needs to tighten its belt, then we need to start and tighten our belt, from the top," Silvey said.
At least nine agency head salary reductions were approved before lawmakers adjourned for the night.
House members also rejected a move to increase K-12 school funding by $106 million.
GOP leaders hope to pass the state budget and send it to the Missouri Senate by Thursday.
