MoDOT Begins Several Road Projects This Week

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is starting several new road projects this week.

Work will include closing two eastbound lanes on the I-64 Daniel Boone Bridge through Thursday so engineers can give the bridge its biannual inspection.

MoDOT’s District Engineer for St. Louis, Greg Horn, says they don’t expect the work to create any serious traffic issues.

“Most of the interstate closures are at night, we’re going to be closing some ramps for three week periods," Horn says.  "As long as people know about that they can get around it.  The Daniel Boone Bridge, we’re going to have two lanes closed but it’s during non-rush hour periods.  So, we don’t think they’ll cause a backup.”

Horn anticipates work on the so-called lid between downtown St. Louis and the Arch grounds to get underway by the end of July or early August.  He also says drivers can expect the new I-70 Mississippi River Bridge to be completed in about seven and a half months.

Below are some of the projects for the St. Louis area.

  • Monday through Thursday this week, two eastbound lanes will be closed on the I-64 Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge for the biannual bridge inspection.  MoDOT crews will close the two left lanes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 17 and 18.  The two right lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 19 and 20.
  • The ramp from Jefferson Avenue to westbound I-64 will close immediately after midnight Monday morning. The ramp will be closed for three weeks, while crews connect the new ramp to the interstate and to Jefferson. Motorists can detour to 14th or Market/Compton to access westbound I-64.  The project is on track to be completed by August, Horn said.
  • Starting at 8 p.m. Monday night, the ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound Fifth Street will remain closed until July 8.
  • This week, crews will close one lane of northbound or southbound I-170 at St. Charles Rock Road weeknights at 9 p.m. The lane will reopen by 5:30 a.m. the following morning.  Work is being done to replace expansion joints on the bridges over St. Charles Rock Road.  Work on this project is also scheduled for the next two weekends, weather permitting.
