MoDOT receives funding for a new Daniel Boone bridge

Jul 13, 2011

A replacement for the oldest interstate bridge in the St. Louis region has gotten the green light from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.

The Commission this morning approved $120 million for a new westbound Daniel Boone Bridge, which carries traffic on Highway 40 across the Missouri River. The westbound span was built in the 1930s and needs constant maintenance.

The department will build the bridge on a design-build contract, in which the same company will handle both parts of the process. MoDOT expects to issue contracts in 2012, with work starting in 2013.

The department is also reminding drivers who are coming down for the U2 concert at Busch Stadium on Sunday that eastbound Interstate 64 will be closed from Jefferson to the Poplar Street Bridge from Friday at 8 p.m. to Sunday at 5 p.m. Two lanes of the Poplar Street Bridge in both directions will also be closed.
