MoDOT says resurfacing will solve lane line confusion on I-44

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – Road crews plan to resurface Interstate 44 in St. Louis and re-stripe it a second time.

MoDOT recently reduced the number of lanes on I-44 from five to four. Anticipating more traffic, MoDOT added an extra lane in each direction before the Interstate 64 overhaul began in 2008.

Workers painted over the old stripes, but they're still visible and that's created a confusing and dangerous situation for drivers. Some motorists say it is difficult to tell the new stripes from the old ones.

MoDOT officials say crews will solve the problem for good when they put down new pavement on I-44 later this month.
