MODOT starts eminent domain proceedings against McKee
St. Louis – Missouri transportation officials have launched eminent domain proceedings against a controversial St. Louis developer.
Paul McKee wants to spend $8 billion over two decades to rebuild part of north St. Louis, and he's been buying up land in the area for years.
Now MODOT wants five of McKee's properties to make way for a new Mississippi River bridge.
However both the transportation agency and McKee say a settlement is likely.
Some north St. Louis residents are concerned McKee will use eminent domain himself to acquire more property.
However the developer has said he will not use the controversial legal procedure to buy churches or owner-occupied homes.
