MOSERS pays bonuses to staff

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri retirement system, also known as MOSERS, will pay out $160,000 in performance incentives to its staff members.

The decision to do so was delayed after media reports that the bonuses were going forward, even though investments made by MOSERS lost money in 2008.

Executive Director Gary Findlay says that they're legally required to pay the bonuses, and suggests they're good for morale.

"The amounts are relatively modest, but they're significant enough to get people's attention...I think they do inspire people to pursue excellence," Findlay said.

Findlay also says the board of trustees is reviewing the bonus plan and whether any changes need to be made.
