New Nursing Home Scorecard Available

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – A new scorecard lets people compare customer satisfaction at all nursing homes in the state.

Carl Binam, with the group Missouri PRO, says the survey will be a good tool for people who are looking for a home for a loved one. But he adds the scores should not be a final word. "They can't just use these numbers and say 'Well this nursing home is doing better than that nursing home or doing worse,'" Binam said "It's just a tool they can use.

"They still have to go out and visit the nursing home. They need to ask questions about the measurements to the nursing home."

Bynam says nursing homes will also use the results to see where they need to improve.

The figures are a compilation of satisfaction surveys taken from nursing home residents throughout Missouri, and are available at www.medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.
