Jefferson City, MO – Two cell phone companies have agreed to use clearer language in their telephone bills and advertisements in Missouri.

The agreement settles the state's lawsuit against Nextel and Sprint, which had said the companies misleadingly made add-on charges appear as taxes.

The companies will now disclose on the bills and ads that the government does not require the new charges. The settlement only applies to the companies' operations in Missouri.

The deal was finalized Thursday; neither company admits doing anything wrong under the agreement.
