Nixon accepts campaign funds from Ameren while investigating reservoir collapse

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon's campaign for governor is getting big help from Ameren Corporation, the company Nixon has threatened to sue over the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse.

Four contributions from Ameren worth more than $19,000 dollars were funneled through Democratic committees to Nixon's campaign in March. Because the contributions were not directly from Ameren, the utility's name does not appear on Nixon's campaign financial disclosures.

The contributions all came after Nixon launched an investigation of Ameren over the Taum Sauk collapse in December, which devastated Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park and injured a family of five.

Nixon says the donations won't influence his investigation. Ameren says it won't discuss any specific contributions.
