Nixon Suing Employeers Over Child Support

By AP/KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – Attorney General Jay Nixon is suing more
than 30 employers in the state for failing to withhold child support payments from their employees' paychecks.

Nixon is trying to recover more than $127,000 in overdue child-support payments.

A Nixon spokesman said today the legal aspects of child support enforcement were transferred from from the Department of Social Services to the attorney general's office July 1.

In Missouri, a parent pays court-ordered support to the state, which then pays the custodial parent.

The lawsuits ask that businesses pay the amount that should have been withheld from their employees' paychecks, plus a $500
fine.
