Kansas City, MO – President Barack Obama said Robin Carnahan would help move his agenda forward while being an independent voice if elected to the U.S. Senate.
Obama appeared with Carnahan in Kansas City Thursday at a pair of fundraisers for her Democratic Senate bid. The Carnahan campaign said the events raised at least $500,000.
Carnahan is the leading Democrat in the race to replace retiring Republican Senator Kit Bond. The Republican front-runner in that race is Congressman Roy Blunt.
Obama criticized Blunt as embracing the failed policies of the past.
Blunt said Obama's fundraiser shows that Carnahan is closely aligned with the president and Democratic congressional leaders. He said their policies were hampering the economy, not helping it.
