Boston, MA – Illinois State Senator and U.S. Senate hopeful Barack Obama will deliver the keynote address at the Democratic convention Tuesday night.

A rising star in the Democratic Party, Obama is heavily favored to win a U.S. Senate seat this fall, in part, because he currently doesn't even have an opponent.

Obama is 42 and would, if elected, become the third black American to serve in the Senate in the last 100 years.

NPR's Linda Wertheimer reported about Obama during NPR's Morning Edition, a story you can hear by clicking here.

NPR's Melissa Block spoke with Obama just hours before his keynote speech Tuesday night. Her interview aired on NPR's All Things Considered, which you can hear by clicking here.
