Poplar Bluff Band Helps Amtrak With Train Concert Experiment

By AP/KWMU

Poplar Bluff, MO – A bluegrass band from Poplar Bluff, Mo. was part of an experiment to gauge reaction to live music on an Amtrak train.

The band is called Buzzard Run. Members performed Memorial Day weekend for passengers on Amtrak's Texas Eagle, which runs from Chicago, through St. Louis, to San Antonio, Tex.

The group marketing the idea, called the Texas Eagle Marketing and Performance Organization (TEMPO), says the musicians were received enthusiastically.

TEMPO says the band played two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon going each direction between the Texas cities of Longview and Austin.

The trip was promoted in Texas as a way to enjoy a train ride, listen to bluegrass music and spend time in Austin's music venues.
