A female nurse who was admitted to Mercy Hospital Jefferson with a fever after returning from Liberia has returned home, officials confirmed Saturday night.

Initial tests conducted Thursday came up negative, and additional blood samples were also negative for Ebola and Malaria, said Warren Robinson of Jefferson County Emergency Management. The patient, who has not been named, was discharged Saturday after an improvement in her condition. She will continue to be monitored by the county health department until the first week of December, as per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Robinson said.

The nurse was considered a low risk case when she came down with the fever a few days after her return from working as a nurse's consultant in Liberia, because she did not have direct contact with patients, officials said.
