St. Louis, MO – Private donors have kicked in $50,000 each for chancellor salaries at University of Missouri campuses in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Rolla.
Payments for UM-St. Louis Chancellor Thomas George and Kansas City's Chancellor, Martha W. Gilliland, came in April.
The Rolla contribution arrived last week after some stock was sold.
University system President Elson Floyd asked for the money in February. He said he wanted to pay all four of the university's chancellors $250,000 a year, saying they must offer the higher salaries to draw and keep high-caliber chancellors.
The university pays the Rolla, St. Louis and Kansas City chancellors $200,000 and the Columbia chancellor $234,000. The $16,000 gap in Columbia is being made up from unrestricted contributions to the university.
