Remains of St. Louis Priest- Missing Since 80s- Found

By AP/KWMU

Tegucigalpa, Honduras – Officials in Honduras say they're almost certain they've found the remains of a St. Louis priest who disappeared in the early 1980s.

Jesuit priest James Carney went missing in 1983, after joining leftist guerrillas in Nicaragua.

U.S. Attorney General spokesman Ricardo Castro would not say when the remains were uncovered. But he says officials are almost certain one of the skeletons is that of Carney.

In June 1983, 53-year-old Carney traveled to Nicaragua, where he joined leftist guerrillas. He was captured by soldiers in September 1983 as he led about 100 rebels across the border. He was never
heard from again.
