Repairs To Blanchette Bridge Set For June

(MODOT photo)

By Kevin Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – In February, workers built a bracket underneath the bridge to transfer weight off of a cracked steel beam discovered during a routine inspection. Next month, St. Louis Bridge Construction Company will replace the entire floor beam with prefabricated steel.

Missouri Department of Transportation spokesman Chris Sutton says the work will be done at night during off peak hours.

"So, if there are lane closures required, they will be done between about 8 p.m. and 5 a.m." Sutton said. "And I say if they're required because we're still working with the contractor to see if we can do this work with no lane closures in place at all."

Sutton says repair work should begin in three to four weeks.
