Road construction pool drops significantly

By St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis – A five year transportation plan for the state released Wednesday by the Missouri Department of Transportation could shock communities with major road projects planned.

The plan released Wednesday predicts that no more than $500 million a year will be available to communities for road construction and improvements between 2011 and 2015. That's a 150 percent drop from the last plan, where the pool was $1.25 billion a year.

MoDOT officials blamed declining state revenue, uncertainty about federal funding, and the end of a bond project. It's likely to put a crimp in several major projects, including the need to rebuild the Daniel Boone Bridge.
