Ryan Pushing Ahead with Campaign Despite Divorce-Papers Ruling

By AP/KWMU

Springfield, Ill – A day after a judge's decision to unseal potentially embarrassing papers in U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan's divorce, GOP officials say it's too soon to talk about replacing him on the ballot.

GOP national committeeman Robert Kjellander calls any discussion of Ryan withdrawing from the race "very premature.

A judge in California yesterday delivered a blow to Ryan in his race against Democrat Barack Obama for the Senate seat now held by Republican Peter Fitzgerald.

The judge ruled that the public has a strong interest in knowing what's in child-custody records stemming from Ryan's 1995 divorce from T.V. actress Jeri Ryan.

Congressman Ray LaHood of Peoria says he's told Ryan that it's better if the information comes out now, rather than just before the November election.
