Sauget, Ill. Board Picks New Mayor

By AP/KWMU

Sauget, Ill. – The Metro-East town of Sauget has a new mayor with a familiar name. The village board Tuesday elected Rich Sauget Jr. He replaces his great uncle, Paul Sauget, who resigned this month after questions were raised over $100,000 in personal charges made on his village-issued credit card.

Mayor Rich Sauget's first act was to appoint the police chief's mom as village clerk.

Former St. Clair County Clerk Janice Delaney replaces Betty Long Wilson who resigned October First. Wilson is also being investigated for her village credit card purchases.

Rich Sauget will remain mayor of the village named for his family until the April 2005 election.
