St. Louis, MO. – A fast-moving thunderstorm Thursday afternoon left storm damage behind in St. Peters and north St. Louis.
High winds ripped off rooftops from a strip mall in the 4100 block of Old Highway 94 South.
An employee at Meineke Car Care Center in St. Peters sustained minor injuries.
Cottleville Fire Protection District assistant fire chief Scott Freitag said the winds were very strong in isolated areas.
"I had a St. Peters police officer that when the wind kicked in where he was sitting it nearly blew his car over," Freitag said.
St. Louis Fire Department Captain Michael Pickett said the storm tore the roof from a home in the 4500 block of Bircher.
He said the department also responded to a couple of fires caused by electrical wire shorts in flooded basements, but he says he's heard of no injuries.
A National Weather Service meteorologist says winds may have reached as high was 70 miles per hour in isolated spots.
