Will be updated.

Current Mo. House Speaker Pro Tem Shane Schoeller has officially announced he'll run for Mo. Secretary of State.

Schoeller joins fellow Republicans Missouri State Sens. Bill Stouffer of Napton and Scott Rupp of Wentzville along with Democratic Mo. State Rep. Jason Kander of Kansas City in vying for the job.

Missouri's current Sec. of State, Robin Carnahan, previously announced that she will not seek a third term.

In a statement sent to the press, Schoeller offered his thoughts on how he would run the Secretary of State's office if elected, including his desire to implement a photo identification requirement for voting:

“For too long, the important office of Secretary of State has been beholden to liberal special interests who have abused the duties of the office,” Schoeller said.  “As Secretary of State, I will end the open-door policies for liberal groups like ACORN, fight to stop election fraud, work to ease the government burden on businesses, and protect Missouri voters by working to implement a commonsense photo identification requirement for voting.”

Schoeller has three children with his wife, Mendie. They live in Willard, Mo.
