Senate Sends Blagojevich Breastfeeding Bill

By AP/KWMU

Springfield, Ill – Illinois women would have the right to breastfeed babies virtually anywhere under a bill headed to the governor's desk.

The Senate approved the Right to Breastfeed Act 57-to-zero Tuesday.

The legislation allows women to nurse their babies anywhere other than a place of worship or a residence whose homeowner objects.

The measure comes after a La Grange woman was asked to nurse her daughter in a special room at a health club. Kathleen Madden says she felt socially discouraged to breastfeed her daughter.

The bill would allow women who believe they were improperly denied the right to breastfeed to file a lawsuit.
