Jefferson City, Mo. – Rain disrupted, but did not cancel, a 9-11 ceremony today at the Missouri State Capitol.
The moderate-sized crowd moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda to remember the victims of the September 11th terror attacks and honor the survivors. Among those present was Ed Savage, a Cole County firefighter.
"I just want everyone to remember 9-11, all our fellow firefighters (that have) fallen, the EMT's, paramedics, the civilians, I just want people to remember that," Savage said. "That's a moment I will never forget."
A number of outdoor displays and events connected to the ceremony were canceled because of rainfall the night before and the threat of more rain today.
Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks, which happened nine years ago.
Governor Jay Nixon has ordered the U.S. and Missouri flags at all state buildings on Saturday to be flown at half-staff, and in a written statement he expressed support for U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
