Series of storms affects listening area

The St. Louis Public Radio listening area experienced waves of severe storms Wednesday.

Here are the latest updates from the National Weather Service.

6:36 p.m.:  Though the dangerous storm system appears to have moved out of the listening area, remember, a tornado watch is in place for the entire listening area until 9 p.m.

5:51 p.m.: A Tornado Warning is in effect for South Central Clinton County (IL), Northeastern Randolph County (IL), Southeastern St. Clair County (IL) and Washington County (IL) until 6:30 p.m.

5:43 p.m.: A Tornado Warning remains in effect for East Central Ste. Genevieve (MO), Southeastern St. Clair (IL) and Randolph (IL) Counties until 6 p.m.

5:38 p.m. Approximately 4,800 Ameren Missouri customers are currently out of power: 1,190 in St. Charles County, 2,700 in St. Louis City, 770 in St. Louis County.

5:33 p.m. There is a Tornado Warning for north central Madison and SE Macoupin counties in Ill. until 5:45 p.m. This is Mount Olive, Benld, Gillespie area.

5:13 p.m.: A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for St. Louis City and St. Louis County until 9 p.m.

5:11 p.m.: A Tornado Warning is in effect for Madison and St. Clair Counties in Ill. until 6 p.m.

5:03 p.m.: A tornado warning remains in effect for extreme East Central Washington, St. Francois, Northwestern Ste. Genevieve, Jefferson and Northwestern Monroe (IL) Counties until 5:30 p.m. Also reports of funnels near Scott AFB.

5:00 p.m.: A tornado warning remains in effect for St. Clair and Northwestern Randolph and Monroe Counties in Ill. until 5:15. Madison County in Illinois until 5:45 p.m.

4:52 p.m.:  From St. Louis Public Schools - List of schools holding students until storm danger has passed:

Students at 17 St. Louis Public Schools are being kept at school until the current severe weather threat passes.  Due to the Tornado warnings in St. Louis City, SLPS officials are keeping students inside the schools until it is declared safe to board busses and travel home.  News media are encouraged to announce this for parents who may not be aware.   Students are being kept at the following SLPS schools: Mallinckrodt Stix Oakhill Innovative Concept Academy Ames Dewey Froebel Kennard Meramec Wilkinson Woerner Hodgen Mullanphy Shenandoah Sigel Washington Montessori Woodward  The tornado warning is expected to expire at 5pm.  Upon receiving the “all clear,” SLPS students will be released from school.

4:42 p.m.:  A Tornado Warning has been issued for St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, St. Clair County until 5 p.m.

4:40 p.m.: Wall clouds are moving into downtown St. Louis right now.

4:34 p.m.:  A new Tornado Warning has been issued for Ste. Genevieve and St. Francois Counties in Missouri until 5:15 p.m.

4:32 p.m. Another Tornado Warning has been issued for Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair Counties in Illinois and Jefferson and St. Genevieve Counties in Mo. until. 5:15 p.m.

4:22 p.m. Near the area of Interstate 270 and Interstate 55 - television showing wall cloud descending. This is near South County Mall.

4:18 p.m. St. Francois and Washington Counties in Missouri also under Tornado Warning until 5 p.m. - storm near Potosi, Mo.

4:14 p.m. Next wave approaching - Tornado Warning for Madison, Monroe, St. Clair Counties in Illinois & Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Louis city, St. Louis County in Missouri until 5 p.m.

4:06 p.m. Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for St. Louis  City, St. Louis County, St. Charles, Jefferson County in Missouri, Madison, Monroe, St. Clair Counties in Ill. until 4:45 p.m.

4:00 p.m.: The Tornado Warning for St. Louis City, Eastern St. Louis and Northeastern St. Charles Counties expired at 4 p.m. (First wave through, may be another)

3: 48: And severe T-storm warning for Lincoln, St. Charles and Warren Counties in Missouri until 4:45 p.m.

3:47 p.m. St. Francois and Washington County Mo. back under tornado warning until 4:30 p.m.

3:40 p.m.: A Tornado Warning has been issued for for Jersey, Madison and Macoupin Counties in Ill. until 4:15.

3:37 p.m.: At 3:30 p.m. a trained weather spotter reported a funnel cloud in Ferguson, Mo. A tornado may occur at any time. This dangerous storm is moving North at 40 mph.

3:31 p.m.: Jersey County in Ill. and Lincoln County in Mo. under tornado warning until 4:15 p.m. Storms starting to move into Ill.

Updated at  3:28 p.m. At 3:20 p.m. trained weather spotters spotted a funnel cloud in Brentwood near the Galleria  Mall. A tornado may develop at any time.

3:21 p.m. Franklin and Jefferson Counties in Missouri are also now under a Tornado Warning until 4 p.m.

3:17 p.m. The following areas are now under a Tornado Warning: Northeastern St. Charles County, Eastern St. Louis County, St. Louis City until 4:00 p.m.

3:07 p.m - Tornado warning for Franklin, Lincoln and Warren County #MO extended until 3:45 p.m.

A tornado watch is in place for the entire listening area until 9 p.m.
