Carbondale, ILL. – Illinois' state budget has not yet been signed into law, but officials at Southern Illinois University are already considering ways to address a $17.5 million reduction in state funding.

The university will make $5.64 million of those cuts at its Edwardsville campus.

SIU's vice president of financial and administrative affairs Dwayne Stuckey says layoffs are likely.

The university will make $10.1 million in cutbacks at its Carbondale campus. The rest of the cuts will be made at satellite campuses, including the Dental School in Alton, and in the university's administration.
